IHG One Rewards Credit Cards Compared: Premier, Premier Select, No-Fee, and Business

IHG One Rewards Credit Cards

Chase and IHG relaunched the IHG One Rewards credit card lineup in the fall of 2026. There are now four cards: the Premier at $150 a year, the new Premier Select at $350, the no-annual-fee IHG One Rewards Credit Card, and the Business card at $200. The differences between them are wider than before, and several benefits come with expiration dates or rules that change on January 1, 2027.

This article lays out what each card earns, what it costs, and the fine print that determines whether a given benefit is actually usable. All four cards require a permanent home address in the 50 states, D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or a U.S. military address.

Welcome Bonuses and Who Can Apply

The spending requirements are modest. Premier needs $3,000 within three months of account opening for 180,000 points. The no-fee card needs $2,000 for 125,000 points. Premier Select and Business both need $5,000, for 200,000 and 190,000 points respectively.

Each card also pays 10,000 extra points for adding an authorized user (an employee card on the Business card) within the first three months. This is paid once, for the first user added, no matter how many you add later. Authorized user spending counts toward the bonus threshold, and all points go to the primary cardmember’s IHG account.

Bonuses post to your IHG account six to eight weeks after you qualify. Balance transfers, cash advances, annual fees, interest, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, lottery tickets, gambling, and person-to-person transfers do not count as purchases and do not earn points.

The eligibility rules differ by card, and this matters if you already hold an IHG card:

  • Premier and the no-fee card: Not available if you currently hold any personal IHG One Rewards credit card, or if you received a new cardmember bonus on any personal IHG card within the last 24 months.
  • Premier Select: The restriction is written narrowly. You are excluded only if you currently hold Premier Select or received a Premier Select bonus within the last 24 months.

Under the offer terms as written, a current Premier or no-fee cardholder is not blocked from Premier Select. Chase’s general terms do add that cardmembers who have or have had a card in the same rewards program “may not be eligible” for a second one, so approval is not guaranteed. The Business card is a separate product and is not mentioned in the personal-card restriction.

Offers can also differ depending on where you apply (online versus in a branch), so check the terms shown on the application page before submitting.

How the Earning Rates Work

IHG advertises “up to 24X” or “up to 28X” on hotel stays. Those figures are the sum of three components: the card’s own earning, the base points every IHG One Rewards member earns, and the elite status bonus.

For Premier, each dollar spent at an IHG hotel earns 10 points from the card, 10 base points from IHG, and 4 points from the Gold Elite bonus (40%), for 24 total. Premier Select is 12 + 10 + 6 (Platinum’s 60% bonus) = 28. Business is 10 + 10 + 6 = 26. The no-fee card is 5 + 10 + 2 (Silver’s 20% bonus) = 17.

Two conditions apply. The base points and status bonus only post when you book through IHG directly (ihg.com, the app, or the call center). Book through an online travel agency and you get only the card’s portion. Also, base earning is lower at some brands: 5 points per dollar at Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites, 3 at IHG Army Hotels, and 2.5 at IHG Residence properties, with the status bonus scaled down accordingly.

Everyday earning rates:

All other travel, including rideshare3X6X2X3X
Social media and search engine advertising3X3X2X5X
Everything else3X3X2X3X

Two things stand out in this table. Premier Select, despite its higher fee, earns only 3X at grocery stores and gas stations, while Premier earns 5X in both. If those are your biggest monthly expenses, Premier accumulates faster. On the other hand, Premier Select’s 6X covers the entire travel category, including Uber and Lyft, while the other three cards limit their travel bonus to airfare bought directly from the airline and car rentals.

Several rates change at the end of 2026:

  • Premier and Business earn 5X on all travel through December 31, 2026. From January 1, 2027, only airline-direct tickets and car rental agencies earn 5X; other travel drops to 3X.
  • Business also earns 5X at office supply stores through December 31, 2026, then 3X.
  • The no-fee card earns 3X on utilities, internet, cable, phone, and select streaming services through December 31, 2026, then 2X.

Transaction dates are set by the merchant. A late-December purchase that posts in January 2027 falls under the new rules.

Points transfer to your IHG account automatically after each billing cycle. Once there, they do not expire as long as your IHG account has activity within any 12-month period.

Automatic Status and Elite Night Credits

Every card grants an elite tier automatically, and three of the four deposit Elite Night Credits (ENCs) each year. ENCs count toward both status tiers and IHG’s Milestone Rewards.

IHG One Rewards tiers require 10 nights for Silver, 20 for Gold, 40 for Platinum, and 70 for Diamond. Milestone Rewards begin at 20 nights and continue every 10 nights.

Annual ENCs post within six to eight weeks of account opening and then by February 1 each calendar year. The terms state you receive the annual amount only once regardless of how many IHG cards are linked to your account. Whether two different products (say, Premier plus Business) each deposit their own ENCs is not spelled out, so it is safer not to assume they stack.

The 2 ENCs per $5,000 have no cap, but only ENCs earned within a calendar year count toward that year’s status. For Premier Select, 20 automatic nights plus the 6 earned on $15,000 of spending plus the 5-night bonus at that threshold gives 31 nights. That is still 39 short of Diamond, so the spend-based status thresholds below are a more realistic path.

Spend-Based Status, Points, and Free Nights

Each card has calendar-year spending thresholds (January 1 through December 31). Rewards post within six to eight weeks of qualifying.

Annual spendPremierPremier SelectNo-Fee CardBusiness
$5,000——4th Reward Night free (from 2027)—

$50,000———Diamond Elite (from 2027)
$60,000———Additional Free Night (50,000-point cap)

Status earned through spending lasts for the rest of the year in which you qualify plus the following calendar year. Only one IHG credit card account per IHG member can award a given status tier, so holding two cards does not extend it.

The Premier’s $15,000 path to Platinum is worth weighing against Premier Select. Automatic Platinum is one of the main things the extra $200 in annual fee buys. If you would put $15,000 a year on the card anyway, Premier reaches the same tier.

Anniversary Free Night

Premier, Premier Select, and Business each issue one free night on every account anniversary, defined as 12 months from the account open date and every 12 months after that.

The rules are identical across the three cards except for the cap. Premier and Business nights are valid at hotels where a standard room costs 50,000 points or less; Premier Select’s cap is 60,000 points. At hotels above the cap, you can add points from your own balance to cover the difference. A Premier cardholder booking a 70,000-point hotel would use the free night plus 20,000 points.

Key restrictions:

  • The night must be booked and the stay completed within 12 months of issue. No extensions.
  • It covers one standard room night and tax only. Parking, resort fees, and other incidentals are your responsibility.
  • It cannot be transferred, exchanged for cash, or converted back to points.
  • Book on ihg.com or by calling 1-877-318-5890. The hotel’s own cancellation policy applies.
  • IHG sends the certificate by email, so your IHG profile needs a valid address with e-communications turned on.

The additional free nights earned at $40,000 on Premier Select and $60,000 on Business follow the same rules, with caps of 60,000 and 50,000 points.

Fourth Reward Night Free

When you redeem points for four or more consecutive nights at the same hotel, every fourth night costs zero points. A four-night stay at a 40,000-point-per-night hotel costs 120,000 points instead of 160,000, a 25% reduction. An eight-night stay gets nights four and eight free. There is no annual limit on how many times you use it.

The conditions:

  • Standard-room, points-only Reward Nights. Paid stays and Points & Cash bookings do not qualify.
  • All four nights must be on one reservation at one property, consecutively.
  • If you cancel or check out before the fourth night, the free night is forfeited.
  • It cannot be combined with Reward Night sale discounts, which only apply to stays of three nights or fewer.

The no-fee card’s version changes in 2027. Through December 31, 2026, no-fee cardholders get the benefit outright. Starting in 2027, you must spend $5,000 in a calendar year to activate it, and it then runs through the rest of that year and the next. If the fourth-night benefit is your main reason for holding the no-fee card, plan around that threshold.

IHG One Rewards members with eligible Chase credit cards pay zero points on every fourth consecutive night for standard room award stays booked on ihg.com.

Food & Beverage Rewards

This is a new benefit in the 2026 lineup. Premier and Business receive a $25 voucher each quarter ($100 a year). Premier Select receives $75 per quarter ($300 a year). Vouchers post automatically to the Rewards Wallet in your IHG account.

The usage rules are strict:

  • Each voucher is valid only during the quarter it was issued. A voucher issued January 1 expires March 31. Nothing rolls over.
  • Each voucher is single-use. If your eligible charges come to less than the voucher’s value, the remainder is forfeited.
  • Charges must be on the primary cardmember’s room bill, and the reservation must be in the primary cardmember’s name.
  • You can apply multiple vouchers during one stay, but only to a single room.
  • Eligible charges generally include food, drinks (including alcohol), and gratuities, as determined by each hotel. Vending machines, third-party delivery, restaurants that do not allow room charges, gift shops, and taxes are excluded.
  • Charges paid with a voucher do not earn IHG points.
  • Group, package tour, and convention stays are excluded.
  • Not available at IHG Army Hotels, select Six Senses properties, Iberostar Beachfront Resorts, Royal Resorts by Holiday Inn Club Vacations, or InterContinental Alliance Resorts (Macau).

Outside the U.S., the voucher converts to local currency at an exchange rate IHG sets at redemption. My practice is to confirm at checkout that a qualifying food and beverage charge is on the folio before asking the desk to apply the voucher, since a redeemed voucher cannot be reversed.

Whether Premier Select makes sense depends heavily on this benefit. If you stay at IHG at least once per quarter and run a $75 tab each time, the $300 covers most of the fee. If you stay twice a year, half the vouchers expire unused.

Airline credit: Spend at least $250 on tickets purchased directly from an airline in a calendar year and the credit posts automatically: $100 on Premier and Business, $200 on Premier Select. Tickets bought through online travel agencies do not qualify. This benefit currently runs only through December 31, 2027. Chase can reverse the credit if you close the account within 90 days of receiving it.

Global Entry / TSA PreCheck / NEXUS: One credit of up to $120 every four years, paid directly to the Department of Homeland Security or an authorized enrollment provider. Fees paid through third-party application services are not reimbursed. An authorized user’s application fee also qualifies.

DashPass: Activate by December 31, 2027 for 12 free months. When the free period ends, you are automatically billed at the regular monthly rate until you cancel. The DoorDash non-restaurant discount depends on when you activated: $10 per month if you activated on or after September 1, 2026, or $10 per quarter if you activated between February 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026. The no-fee card gets DashPass only, without the discount.

Instacart: Premier, Premier Select, and Business cardholders who activate the Chase Instacart+ membership get a $10 credit each month, usable on one order of $10 or more. Unused credits do not carry over. Activation runs through December 31, 2027.

United TravelBank Cash: Premier and Premier Select only. Register once at ihg.com/united and link a United MileagePlus account. $25 posts around January 5 and another $25 around July 5. First-half deposits expire July 15; second-half deposits expire January 15 of the following year. The short validity makes this useful only if you fly United regularly.

Expensify: Business card only, up to $100 per calendar year for purchases made directly with Expensify.

IHG’s own first-year value estimates are “over $700” for Premier, “over $1,000” for Premier Select, and “over $750” for Business. Those figures include DashPass, Instacart, and the DoorDash discount, so the realized value depends on whether you already use those services.

Points Purchase Discount and Reward Night Sales

All four cards give at least 30% off IHG points purchases when the purchase is paid with the card. These purchased points do not count toward elite status, the cost is non-refundable, and the discount cannot be stacked with IHG’s own points-purchase promotions.

Early access to Reward Night sales lets cardholders book sale rates before they open to general members. Sale discounts reduce the points required for points-only bookings or reduce the cash portion of Points & Cash bookings, but only on stays of three nights or fewer. For a four-night stay, you choose between the sale discount and the fourth-night-free benefit; run the numbers both ways.

Which Card Fits

One or two IHG stays a year: The no-fee card is the sensible starting point. 125,000 points for $2,000 in spending, no annual fee, Silver status, and 5 ENCs. There is no anniversary night, and from 2027 the fourth-night benefit needs $5,000 in annual spending.

Three to six stays a year, and you want a free night: Premier’s $150 fee buys an anniversary night with a 50,000-point cap, $100 in dining vouchers, and a $100 airline credit. Using the free night once generally covers the fee. The 5X at grocery stores and gas stations also makes it a reasonable everyday card.

Frequent IHG stays, willing to pay for Platinum: Premier Select delivers automatic Platinum, 20 ENCs, a 60,000-point anniversary night, $75 in dining vouchers per quarter, and a $200 airline credit. It only pays off if you stay often enough to use the quarterly vouchers, and you have to accept 3X at grocery stores and gas stations.

You own a business: The Business card provides automatic Platinum, 15 ENCs, an anniversary night, and the $100 Expensify credit for $200 a year, between Premier and Premier Select in cost. The 5X on social media and search advertising is relevant if you buy ads. It is a separate product and can be held alongside a personal IHG card.

Two dates to keep in mind: the broader 5X travel category on Premier and Business narrows at the end of 2026, and the no-fee card’s fourth-night benefit becomes spend-gated in 2027. The airline credit, DashPass, DoorDash discount, and Instacart credit are all currently published through the end of 2027; whether they continue after that will depend on future announcements.
