IHG 15% Off Award Sale
IHG One Rewards has activated a 15% discount on reward nights across its global portfolio. The discount reduces the amount of points needed to book a free hotel night. This promotion is currently active and covers stays through the middle of the fall season.
The discount is applied automatically when you log into an eligible account and search for reward nights on the IHG website or app. You will see both the original point price and the discounted price crossed out on the search results page.
Promotion Dates and Rules
To utilize this discount, your booking must align with a specific travel window and stay length.
- Booking Deadline: You must book your stay by September 21, 2026.
- Eligible Travel Dates: Stays must be completed between September 16, 2026, and November 2, 2026.
- Eligible Stay Length: The discount applies to stays of any length for Platinum and Diamond Elites. For co-branded cardholders, it only applies to stays of 1 to 3 nights because the “Fourth Night Free” benefit overrides it on longer stays.
- Booking Type: The discount applies to standard point redemptions. If you choose a Points & Cash rate, the 15% reduction only applies to the points portion of the booking.
Account Eligibility
IHG staggers access to these recurring award discounts. Early access is currently live for members who hold an IHG co-branded payment card. This includes US-based Chase cardholders (such as the Premier, Traveler, Business, and legacy Select cards) and UK-based IHG x Revolut debit cardholders.
If you do not have a co-branded card, you may still get access. IHG historically opens this exact promotion to all Platinum Elite and Diamond Elite members a few days after the cardholder launch. Elite members should monitor their accounts to see when the discounted pricing appears in their search results.
Practical Ways to Use the Discount
You can optimize this promotion based on the specific type of IHG account and benefits you hold.
Rebook Existing Reservations
If you already have a reward stay booked for dates prior to November 2, check the current pricing. Because IHG uses dynamic pricing, the base rate may have fluctuated, and the 15% discount will lower it further. Since standard reward nights are fully refundable, you can cancel your existing reservation and rebook it at the new, lower rate to return the point difference to your account.
Maximize Capped Free Night Certificates
This promotion provides a distinct advantage for members holding the older, discontinued IHG Select credit card. The annual free night certificate issued by this card is strictly capped at properties costing up to 40,000 points per night. Unlike newer certificates, you cannot top it up with additional points from your balance.
Because the 15% discount lowers the actual room rate, you can use your capped certificate at more expensive properties. A room that normally costs up to 45,000 points per night will drop to 38,250 points under this sale, making it fully bookable with a standard 40,000-point certificate.
Manage the Fourth Night Free Benefit
If you have an IHG Premier, Traveler, or Business card, your account automatically includes the “Fourth Night Free” benefit on award bookings. It is important to note that the 15% discount cannot be combined with the Fourth Night Free perk.
The system will not stack the two discounts. For a stay of exactly four nights, the Fourth Night Free benefit effectively acts as a 25% discount, which saves you more points than the current sale. Limit your use of the 15% discount to shorter stays of one, two, or three nights where the fourth-night benefit does not apply.
If you are planning a longer stay of five nights or more, the most effective strategy is to split your booking. Book your first four nights as one reservation to trigger the Fourth Night Free benefit, then make a separate reservation for the remaining nights to secure the 15% discount. You can contact the hotel before arrival or ask the front desk at check-in to link the reservations, allowing you to stay in the same room without checking out.
Combine with the 100% Bonus Points Sale
IHG is running a concurrent promotion offering a 100% bonus on purchased points through October 5, 2026. This drops the cost of buying points to as low as 0.5 cents per point.
If your account balance is too low for a redemption, you can buy the necessary points during this sale. You can then immediately redeem those purchased points for a stay using the 15% off discount.
Always compare the cash price of the room against the cost of buying points. Calculate the total cost of the points needed for the discounted award night. Only purchase the points if that total is lower than the standard cash rate for the hotel.
