On October 21, 2026, Hilton Honors introduced Pay with Points, making Hilton the first major hotel brand to let members apply loyalty points toward their hotel folio through a fully digital checkout process. The feature was developed after internal Hilton research showed that 70% of surveyed members wanted the ability to use points for on-property charges, and roughly half indicated that this option would make them more likely to book with Hilton.
While other hotel loyalty programs allow members to use points to cover incidental charges, those redemptions typically require speaking with an agent at the front desk. By integrating Pay with Points directly into the Hilton Honors mobile app alongside existing tools like Digital Check In, Digital Key, and Choose Your Room, Hilton allows travelers to review their bill and redeem points on the go without visiting the front desk.
Eligibility Requirements and Rollout Schedule
Pay with Points is restricted to specific membership tiers and geographic regions. If the option does not appear in your app at the end of a stay, it is because one or more of the following criteria have not been met:
- Elite Status Requirement: You must hold Hilton Honors Silver, Gold, Diamond, or Diamond Reserve status. Base members are not eligible to use this feature.
- Reservation Requirements: You must be the primary guest of record on the reservation for a qualifying stay. You cannot use your points to pay for another guest’s separate folio.
- Minimum Points Balance: Your account must contain enough Hilton Honors points to meet the system’s minimum redemption threshold. Hilton reserves the right to change these thresholds at any time.
- Participating Properties: The benefit is currently limited to participating hotels in the United States. Eligible members staying at a participating hotel will receive a pre-arrival email confirming that their reservation qualifies for Pay with Points.
Hilton is rolling out this capability in phases. As of launch, Pay with Points is live at 150 participating U.S. properties. The company expects to expand the feature to over 800 hotels by the end of 2026, followed by a wider rollout to more than 6,000 participating properties across the U.S. and Canada in early 2027.
How to Use Pay with Points and Eligible Charges
When you are ready to leave a participating hotel, open the Hilton Honors app and initiate Digital Check Out. While reviewing your folio, the app will display available point redemption options based on your current balance and bill total. You can select the number of points you wish to apply from the available range to cover all or part of your eligible balance. Any remaining balance is automatically billed to the payment method on file.
If you have multiple rooms booked under your single reservation, you can use Pay with Points to cover eligible charges across those rooms. During the Digital Check Out process, simply select each specific room one by one and follow the on-screen prompts to apply your points.
Eligible charges vary by property. Room rates, taxes, gratuities, service charges, resort fees, and deposits may or may not qualify for point redemptions depending on the hotel. The Hilton Honors app automatically identifies which charges on your folio can be covered with points during the checkout process.
Key Restrictions and Practical Considerations
Before confirming a point redemption at checkout, keep several strict program rules in mind:
- App-Exclusive Feature: Front desk agents cannot process Pay with Points redemptions. If you check out in person at the front desk instead of using Digital Check Out in the mobile app, you will not be able to apply points toward your bill.
- Redemptions Are Final: Once you confirm your checkout and redeem points, the points are immediately deducted from your Hilton Honors account. Transactions cannot be modified, canceled, refunded, or redeposited, nor can they be exchanged for cash or credit.
- Check the Redemption Value: Using points to wipe out dining or resort fees at checkout offers convenience, especially if you have a small balance of points you do not plan to save for a full award night. However, hotel folio redemptions often yield a lower cents-per-point value compared to standard free night redemptions. Always compare the dollar amount saved against the number of points required on the checkout screen before confirming the transaction.
Adding point redemptions to Digital Check Out removes the hassle of waiting in line at the front desk to settle incidental charges. As the feature expands across the U.S. and Canada through 2027, elite members will have a straightforward way to reduce out-of-pocket stay expenses directly from their phones.
