IHG has launched a targeted promotion for existing InterContinental Ambassador members. Members who renew their status and complete two qualifying nights by December 31, 2026, can earn up to 25,000 IHG One Rewards bonus points. No registration is required to participate, though the offer is restricted to members who receive a direct invitation from IHG.
Renewal Options and Points Breakdown
Standard renewal for the InterContinental Ambassador program costs either $225 in cash or 45,000 IHG One Rewards points. Under this promotion, the total points return depends on the payment method selected at renewal:
- Cash Renewal ($225 USD): Members receive the standard 15,000 bonus points immediately upon renewing. After completing two qualifying nights between the renewal date and December 31, 2026, an additional 10,000 bonus points are awarded, bringing the total to 25,000 points.
- Points Renewal (45,000 Points): Renewing with points does not trigger the initial 15,000-point bonus. However, members are still eligible for the promotional 10,000 bonus points after completing two qualifying nights by December 31, 2026, reducing the net cost of renewal to 35,000 points.
All points earned through this offer are bonus points and do not count toward elite status qualification. The offer is valid once per eligible member. Depending on the specific bonus component, points take between six and eight weeks to post to the member’s IHG One Rewards account.
Eligibility and Timing Rules
To secure the extra 10,000 bonus points, members must follow strict timing rules during the campaign period, which runs from October 18, 2026, through December 31, 2026:
- Renewal Deadline: The renewal transaction must be completed via an official IHG direct channel (such as ihg.com or the central reservations office) no later than 11:59 PM ET on December 31, 2026. Furthermore, while standard program rules allow renewals up to 31 days after expiration, the terms for this specific 10,000-point stay bonus require members to renew before their current membership expiration date.
- Stay Window: Both qualifying nights must take place after the membership is renewed and on or before December 31, 2026. Stays completed prior to the renewal date are not eligible for retroactive credit.
- Exclusions: Royal Ambassador members are excluded from this promotion. The offer also does not apply to new enrollments, complimentary memberships, or renewals processed using an IHG employee discount.
Qualifying Stays and Using the Complimentary Weekend Night
The two required nights do not need to be consecutive; they can be completed as a single two-night stay or two separate one-night stays at any participating IHG hotel worldwide—not just InterContinental properties.
To count as a qualifying stay, the booking must be made at a qualifying rate with a total spend exceeding $30 USD (or local currency equivalent) per night before taxes. Only one room per member per stay counts toward the promotion, and only one member per room can claim the night credit.
A notable highlight of the terms involves the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night. Normally, nights without a cash outlay do not count as qualifying stays. However, IHG explicitly counts both nights of an Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night booking toward the two-night requirement for this promotion, waiving the $30 minimum spend rule for the free second night.
Because the weekend certificate requires a minimum two-night stay (valid Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, or Thursday through Saturday at select Middle East properties), a member can renew their membership, immediately book a two-night weekend stay using their certificate before December 31, 2026, and fulfill the entire stay requirement in a single trip. Keep in mind that advance reservations under the specific “Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night Rate” are required, and members are only permitted to hold one open reservation linked to the certificate at a time.
Evaluating the Offer Value
This renewal offer stacks with other sitewide IHG promotions. Evaluating whether to pay cash or redeem points comes down to how you value IHG One Rewards currency:
At a conservative valuation of 0.5 cents per point ($5 per 1,000 points), the 25,000 points earned from a $225 cash renewal and two-night stay are worth $125. This brings the net out-of-pocket cost of the Ambassador membership down to $100. If you use the Complimentary Weekend Night certificate at an InterContinental hotel where rates exceed $100 per night, you come out ahead financially while retaining guaranteed one-category room upgrades, 4:00 PM late checkout, and complimentary IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status.
Conversely, redeeming 45,000 points and receiving 10,000 points back results in a net cost of 35,000 points (worth roughly $175 at 0.5 cents each). Paying the $225 cash fee is therefore the more economical choice for most members.
Any inquiries regarding missing promotional points must be submitted to IHG within 60 days after the campaign ends on December 31, 2026.
